Diary Of An Aesthetic Virgin – Love The Skin You’re In With A Little Help
Well it has to be said, with each tried and tested new treatment, I’m getting more and more into this newfound world of aesthetics.
Like many, I had preconceived ideas about aesthetics and people’s motivations for being treated; but I’ve experienced first-hand the feelings of confidence and happiness following many compliments about my glowing, line-free skin.
Aesthetics is not just about reversing the signs of ageing. There are treatments out there that tackle skin conditions, those of which, for many, can have a very real, emotionally damaging effect.
When I was about 28, I suffered from acne for the first time in my life. I recently found out that this is a really common complaint in women at that age due to the influence of hormonal changes. It lasted for about a year, but what I wasn’t prepared for was the scarring it left me with on one side of my face; something that almost 20 years later, I still feel self-conscious about.
Having had a full complimentary consultation I headed to Aspire Clinic at the Madejski Stadium to try out a professional skin needling treatment - EDS Rejuvenate - that stimulates the skin to regenerate and repair itself. As an established clinically proven treatment, EDS Rejuvenate claims remarkable results in significantly improving the appearance of acne scars, photo-damaged and ageing skin, lines and wrinkles, and stretch marks by stimulating the skin to rejuvenate itself and become plumper and smoother.
To make me comfortable, my lovely practitioner, Georgina applied a topical anaesthetic to my face, making this an easy to tolerate procedure. Then with a medical grade eDermastamp device (looked pretty much like a chunky pen), Georgina penetrated my face with micro needles to kick-start the skin into naturally forming new collagen and generate new skin cells. The actual treatment took around 20 minutes, and the recommended treatment course usually consists of three treatments six weeks apart.
Immediately following the treatment, my skin was pink for about 24 hours, but easy to cover with make-up. I then had to (and still am as it’s now become my moisturiser of choice and there’s no need for foundation!) apply Heliocare SPF 50 tinted moisturiser daily to protect my skin from damaging UV rays.
Because skin needling stimulates natural responses in the skin, the results are really natural looking too. Within days my skin definitely looked smoother and brighter, particularly on my scarred cheek. And as an added bonus, the darker pigmentation spots caused by my love of the sun had faded too!
I’ve got two more treatments, and with a little help, I’m looking forward loving the skin I’m in.
