Government Launches Consultation into Unregulated Cosmetic Procedures
We’ve said it once and we’ll say it again, you only have one face, so be picky about the injector you choose. As such, we are delighted that the Government has now launched its public consultation into unregulated cosmetic procedures. Practitioners, patients and the public will now have the opportunity to express their thoughts on how non-surgical aesthetics should be regulated in England. There has been a huge increase in cosmetic procedures in recent years, fuelled by social media and more openness and acceptance about the industry. However, whilst healthcare professionals such as doctors, nurses and dentists carrying out non-surgical cosmetic procedures have to be trained and insured to do them as part of the requirements laid down by their regulatory bodies, there is no set training for beauty therapists and other non-professionals. Nor is there any regulation relating to the premises where treatments are carried out.
We are in full support of the proposed new licensing scheme, which is now going through public consultation, and will make it a criminal offence for anyone to carry out non-surgical cosmetic treatments without a licence. Practitioners will have to be trained, qualified and experienced, be properly insured and premises will also be subject to license and hygiene regulations.
In the meantime, if you’re considering dermal fillers or anti-wrinkle injectables, we urge that you ask the following questions:
- Is your injector a medical professional?
- Is your injector a prescriber or works closely with a prescriber?
- Is your injector experienced, insured and regulated?
- Does your injector offer full aftercare?
- Does your injector have the experience and knowledge to say no?
- Does your injector have excellent reviews?
Don’t just opt for the cheapest or a pop-up location…you and your face deserve better.
